All about Tanning Beds !!

Some facts about Tanning Bed :
Tanning always has been and likely always will be a favorite past time and look for many people. Tanning is not a safe thing to do no matter if you use a tanning bed or the sun to do it. We all know this. Using a tanning bed was once thought to be safer than sitting in the sun. Global warming has proven that theory wrong. Although tanning is not safe, the tanning bed is still considered a better alternative. Tanning beds do not protect your from the sun’s harmful UV rays as many think because tanning beds us unnatural UV light rays to tan you indoors.

Tanning beds use light bulbs to produce the desired skin color, which is much like mircowaving your skin. There are UVA only tanning beds that are meant to ease the UV exposure but you will still be exposed to the UV rays to a certain degree. You have to have some UVB exposure in order to get the melanin to become stimulated enough. Most tanning beds use those long florescent light bulbs to give the desired effect and they are also uncomfortable to lie on because they are made up of that hard acrylic.

Modern tanning beds are designed to be more comfortable and are called high pressure tanning beds. High pressure tanning beds use quartz lamps that vary in length, usually tanning the body from above while the tanner rests comfortably on a contoured mattress. That is a far cry above the older acrylic models. These pressure tanning beds can give you a more comfortable tanning session, and a good tan look; however, this is not much better to the skin than the older tanning bed models.

The average tanning bed session lasts for about 20 minutes before you begin to start burning. Many tanners are using sun block to protect their skin while lying in a tanning bed. Doing this does help a little bit. Tanning beds are most popular during those winter and autumn months when sitting out in the sun is not available. Tanning beds for the home generally cost around $10,000-$40,000. Using the UVA only beds often means that you can spend much less time in the tanning bed, which is a nicer option if you develop a base tan and gradually move up to maintenance instead. Without the base tan in the tanning bed, you will be spending far more time that you should under such UV exposure.

Getting your tan in a tanning bed or studio will generally run you about $30 a session and more if you are a walk in. For a year round tan, you will likely make up to 24 sessions for the year as it takes about 2 tanning bed sessions per month to maintain the look. That winds up costing you about $720 per year just for the tanning bed session. This is of course before you move on to the tanning creams and accelerators. A very good one is the bronzer E3 by Fiesta Sun. It runs for about $90 for an 8oz tube. For many, the risks and money are worth it because tanning beds give you something that sunless tanning doesn’t. Some of these things are:
A flawless and natural looking tan
A tan that lasts for weeks and not just until you shower
A tanning color that you can control on your own
A fresh glow that is natural
A good tan can flatter every body type and shape
Tanning beds help to reduce the look of stretch marks

Most people are not deterred by the risks of Tanning Bed use, so here are some basic rules to follow if you are planning to use a tanning bed any time soon. Do not use a tanning bed if: you have sensitive or easy to burn skin; if you are under 16; have a lot of freckles or red to light blonde hair; have a lot of moles or lesions; are taking medications that make you sensitive to light like Retinol; or if you have a history of cancer in your family.

Tanning beds alone; just like everything else when used in excessive quantities can be harmful. If you are interested in using tanning beds, you should still protect yourself from the sun with high SPF sun blockers and covered skin with clothing. If you are really interested in the perfectly safe tan, try using self tanning creams instead of tanning beds all together. They may not look the same or last as long, but they are harmless.
